What make me choose digital art over traditional one?

Chances are, is one of the most common questions every artist asks themselves. It was also one of mine at some point; I think it has to do with our nature of constantly trying to improve ourselves – in art and everything else. And when you think about it, if we don’t like something about how we’re working, there is only one solution – change. Whether that’s to improve or just simply become different. And if you’re not satisfied with what you’re doing, becoming different would be the best option.

What made me choose digital art over traditional one?

So here are some of the things I think made me make this choice:

1) When I bought my first Wacom tablet, I did not know the difference between working traditionally and digitally. All I knew was that you could make drawings on your computer with it (which is already amazing in itself). So what you do when you get something new? You play around with it. When I started out, this was exactly what I did; no knowledge whatsoever. The only thing I noticed was that it took a lot of time to do things, even with a tablet and stylus pen connected.

2 ) When I worked traditionally, for the same amount of work done in digital art, you would need a much bigger area for paper or canvas. If you’ve ever tried to draw on a small surface, you know that it’s not easy. And in case of taking notes or something like that, using a laptop is also much more convenient than carrying around big sheets of paper. So this made me want to work digitally even more (so I could save time and space).

3)  I think the most important reason though; is that I realized how much easier it is to improve digitally. When you work digitally, you have a lot more options to play with. After every change you make, you get a completely new result – creating something from nothing really does feel amazing! This, in comparison to traditional art where there are only so many steps before it gets too complicated and you can’t do much else to make the drawing any better.

4) And last but not least, one of my own personal reasons – digital art looks more fun . You get to play around with colors and shapes in a way that you only could dream of with traditional art.

Those are some of the main reasons why I chose digital art.

What made you choose digital art? Do you agree or disagree with the points made above? Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments below!
