Digital Illustrators face many difficulties every day. The most common one is using a digital tablet to draw with. It can lead to frustration and errors due to its inability to mimic ‘real life’ objects accurately. Another difficulty might be the need for software such as Adobe Photoshop where a license costs a lot of money, unlike traditional media which is free. Another difficulty might be the amount of time it takes to get good at drawing digitally, which can be said for traditional media too. Digital Illustrators also have difficulties with marketing themselves and selling their art to others.

A benefit to being a digital illustrator is that you are able to make changes without having to wait until you can see the actual artwork itself. This makes it easy to experiment and find out what works and what doesn’t work. It also allows the possibility of creating realistic looking art that was impossible to do before, such as digitally painting a person realistically. Digital Illustration is also able to be done without the need for any paper or pencils, making it more environmentally friendly.

Being a digital illustrator can be difficult because of the time it takes to become good at it, just like with traditional drawing. It may take hours upon hours to learn how to do something well enough that your art doesn’t look completely terrible. Also you must have software for digital illustration which is not free unlike pencils and paper.

For digital illustrators it is a lot more difficult to market themselves and their art. Digital drawing takes many hours of work while traditional drawing does not. It makes it harder for them to get the credit they deserve while also making it more difficult for them to sell their work because of its uniqueness. If a person were to tell you they draw traditional pictures, they are automatically thought to be better than the digital illustrators because of their process being more simple.
